How we handle
your information.
LocVox is a community dashboard for St. Thomas residents. We believe in being straightforward about what data we collect and how we use it. Short version: we collect very little, we don't sell anything, and you're always in control.
- Basic usage data — Pages visited, referring sites, browser type, and device type. This is collected automatically by our web hosting provider through standard server logs.
- Cookies and local storage — Small files stored in your browser to enable site features and remember your preferences. See the Cookies section below for details.
- Newsletter email address — Only if you voluntarily subscribe to the LocVox weekly newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
- Contact form submissions — Your name, email address, and message, when you reach out to us through the contact page. Used only to respond to your inquiry.
- Daily Scramble game data — If you submit a score to the leaderboard: your chosen display name, score, streak, and time. See the Scramble section below for full details.
- Necessary cookies — Session management, security tokens, and basic site functionality. These are required for the site to work and do not require your consent under GDPR.
- Analytics cookies — Help us understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, time spent, etc.). Only activated with your consent.
- Preference cookies — Remember your settings, such as your selected search engine or waste pickup zone. Stored in your browser's local storage.
- Managing cookies — You can manage your cookie preferences at any time using the cookie settings panel on this site, or by clearing cookies in your browser settings.
- Display and personalize site content based on your location preferences and prior visits
- Send the weekly LocVox newsletter, if you have subscribed
- Respond to messages you send us through the contact form
- Understand how the site is being used so we can improve it (analytics)
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.
The Daily Scramble is a free word game available on LocVox. Playing the game in practice mode collects no data whatsoever. If you choose to submit your score to the daily leaderboard, here is exactly what is stored:
- Display name — A name you enter yourself (max 20 characters). No real name or account is required — you can use any name you like.
- Device ID — A random identifier generated in your browser and stored in local storage. This is used only to deduplicate leaderboard entries (one entry per device per day) and to highlight your own score on the leaderboard. It is not tied to your identity.
- Score, streak, and time — The number of words solved, your consecutive-day streak, and how long you played. This data is stored on LocVox servers and displayed publicly on the leaderboard.
- Profanity check — Before your display name is saved, it is sent to a third-party profanity filter (PurgoMalum) to screen for inappropriate content. The name is the only data transmitted to this service.
Leaderboard data (name, score, streak) is visible to all visitors. Your device ID is not displayed publicly, though it may be present in API responses used to build the leaderboard. If you would like a specific leaderboard entry removed, contact us.
LocVox integrates with several third-party services to deliver content and features. Each of these services operates under their own privacy policy and may set their own cookies.
- Newsletter — Every email includes an unsubscribe link that removes you from the list immediately. To request complete deletion of your email address from our records, contact us.
- Scramble leaderboard — Because no account is required, your entry is identified only by the display name you chose. To request removal, contact us with the name and date of the entry.
- Facebook data — If you interacted with LocVox through Facebook features, you may request deletion of any associated data by contacting us. You can also use Facebook’s own data deletion tools in your Facebook account settings.
- Contact form messages — Retained only as long as necessary to respond to your inquiry, then deleted.
If you have any questions about this privacy policy, how your data is handled, or would like to request access to or deletion of your data, please reach out through the contact page. We take these requests seriously and will respond promptly.
