Garbage goes out every week. Recycling and organics each go out every other week, taking turns: one week is a Recycle Week (blue box plus garbage), the next is an Organics Week (green cart plus garbage). Your collection day and your A or B group depend on where you live, so use the map above to find both.
Each household may set out 2 containers per week (one large can counts as two). Each container and its contents must weigh under 20 kg (45 lb). Need more room? Extra bags need a $1.75 bag tag, sold at City Hall and local variety stores. Broken glass goes in a sealed box labelled "Broken Glass," out with the garbage.
Keep recyclables and food scraps out of the garbage. They belong in the blue box and green cart, and it keeps your garbage under the limit.

If you can eat it, it goes in. Roughly 40% of household garbage is actually organics that belongs here instead.
The cart cannot weigh more than 91 kg (200 lb), and the lid must close for it to be collected.
Extra leaf and yard waste is collected on designated weeks in spring (late April through May) and fall (mid-October through late November), on your regular collection day.
On weeks with a statutory holiday, collection can be pushed back a day. The upcoming pickups shown above already reflect any holiday changes for your zone, so that list is always your best guide. The main year-end change:

The Community Recycling Centre is closed on statutory holidays.
For anything that does not go curbside, the CRC is at 330 South Edgeware Road. Credit or debit only (no cash), with a $25 plus HST minimum on charged loads.
Mar 17 to Nov 23: Tue to Fri 10am to 5pm, Sat 8am to 3pm, Sun 10am to 3pm.
Nov 24 to Mar 15: Wed 8am to 4:30pm, Sat 8am to 3pm.
Hazardous waste: Wed 10am to 3pm and Sat 8am to 3pm, year round.
Free: tires, cardboard, blue-box recyclables, electronics, scrap metal, textiles, styrofoam, household hazardous waste.
Charged: mixed waste $140/tonne, shingles and construction debris $100/tonne, fridges and freezers $55 each, leaf & yard $15/load (5 bags or fewer free).
Household hazardous waste (paint, oils, batteries, propane tanks, pharmaceuticals, and needles in approved containers) is accepted free on hazardous-waste days. Used needles also go in the 24-hour sharps bins at Southwestern Public Health (1230 Talbot St E), City Hall (rear, off Curtis St), 5 William St, and 423 Talbot St.
