The St. Thomas Police Service wants to hear from you before it writes its next five-year plan.
This week, STPS and the St. Thomas Police Services Board launched a short Community Consultation Survey, 13 questions, to help build the Service’s Strategic Plan for 2027 to 2031. The current plan is in its final year, covering 2023 to 2026.
The survey asks what residents think about local policing priorities, what safety concerns matter most, and what people expect from their police service. Anyone who lives, works, or spends time in St. Thomas can take part, online at surveymonkey.com/r/3Y35Y87 or by scanning the QR code on the STPS release.
This is not just a suggestion box. Ontario law requires every police service to have a board like this one, and it holds real power: it approves the strategic plan, appoints the Chief and Deputy Chiefs, and sets the Service’s overall priorities. The board has five members, including Mayor Joe Preston and one city councillor, alongside a city-appointed resident and two provincial appointees. Chief Marc Roskamp leads the Service and answers to the board.
Plans like this shape where officers spend their time and what programs get funded for years at a stretch, so a few minutes with the survey now can shape the city’s policing well past 2027.
