St. Thomas Police are opening the doors of their headquarters to the public on Saturday, September 12th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s free, family-friendly, and the first open house the Service has announced since September 2024.
Visitors can tour the Constable Colin McGregor Building on Caso Crossing, meet members of the St. Thomas Police Service, and watch live demonstrations from the Training Unit, the Drone Unit and the Canine Unit. There will be activities, popcorn, balloons and giveaways for all ages. Guests are also asked to bring a donation for the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank, known locally as the Caring Cupboard, which has fed the community since 1986 and helps residents more than 20,000 times a year.
The last open house, in 2024, was where Chief Marc Roskamp showed off two then-new additions the department has leaned on since: a second police service dog team and a critical incident response team. Both turn out to matter. When Roskamp presented the department’s 2025 crime numbers to council last month, he credited a second dog team and a new crime analysis unit, plus a community resource unit and the critical incident response team, as part of why overall crime severity in St. Thomas fell 6.1 percent in 2025 compared to 2024, and 10.1 percent since 2023.
The open house also lands while the department is still gathering public input for its next long-term plan. As LocVox reported in July, St. Thomas Police launched a short online survey asking residents what they want the force to focus on between 2027 and 2031, and it’s still open with no deadline announced.
It’s a busy month for the department more generally. Its Traffic Management Unit says school-zone enforcement projects are running all September as students head back to class, on top of two speed-enforcement projects on Sunset Drive and Highbury Avenue that just wrapped up with 138 charges and 35 warnings between them.
Mark your calendar: Saturday, September 12th, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 45 Caso Crossing. Admission is free, and they’ll happily take a can of soup for the food bank on your way in.
